What a 30x wagering requirement really costs you, in dollars

A 30x wagering requirement on a $100 bonus means you have to place $3,000 of bets before the bonus and anything you won with it can be withdrawn. If the terms say 30x on bonus plus deposit, and you deposited $100 to get that $100, the figure is $6,000. Same multiplier, same headline, twice the betting, and the only thing that separates the two is one word in the terms.

That is the whole concept, and it is the number that decides whether an offer is worth claiming. The multiplier itself tells you almost nothing until you know what it multiplies, which games count, how long you have, and what the maximum you can take out is.

There are two formulas, and every set of terms uses one of them. iGamingXpert states them as multiplier × bonus, or multiplier × (deposit + bonus). Read your terms to find out which one you are agreeing to before you read anything else.

The gap is not cosmetic. On the same $50 deposit with a $50 bonus, iGamingXpert calculates $1,250 of required turnover at 25x bonus-only and $4,500 at 45x on deposit plus bonus: 3.6 times the betting for an offer that looks broadly similar in an advert. At 30x, The Lines puts the same contrast at $3,000 versus $6,000 for a $100 deposit matched with $100.

For context on where 30x sits: deposit match offers commonly run 15x to 40x according to The Lines, and 20x to 40x according to next.io, which updated its guide on 7 September 2026. Free spins tend to carry 25x to 60x, and no-deposit bonuses 40x to 70x. So 30x is mid-range for a match and cheap for a no-deposit offer, which is why the multiplier alone is a poor comparison tool.

Game weighting. Only slots normally count dollar for dollar. Everything else counts at a fraction, so the $3,000 becomes a much larger number if you play it anywhere other than slots. iGamingXpert publishes the most granular table of the sources we read:

iGamingXpert's own worked case is a $2,000 requirement cleared on blackjack at 10% weighting, which takes $20,000 of blackjack bets. If you are a blackjack player, that line is the reason most match bonuses are not for you.

Max bet. While a bonus is live, operators cap the stake that counts, typically $5 to $6 a spin per iGamingXpert and $5 to $10 per GamblingNerd, updated 11 August 2026. Go over it and accumulated winnings can be voided. That cap also sets your pace: $3,000 at $5 a spin is 600 spins.

The window. Typically 7 to 30 days. Fanatics Casino's lossback credit in New Jersey expires 7 days after issuance, per PlayNJ. A short window can defeat a low multiplier, because unplaced bets count for nothing.

Max cashout. A cap such as 5x the bonus limits what you can take out no matter what you hit. It does not reduce the wagering you owe; it only trims the upside you are wagering for.

In the regulated states our sources cover, nobody we found is publishing 30x on a deposit match. The steepest named terms are 25x.

• bet365 Pennsylvania: a deposit match advertised as up to $1,000 plus 1,000 spins, with a 25x playthrough. PlayPennsylvania works it out as $2,500 of play on a $100 deposit.
• Jackpot City Pennsylvania: a 100% match at 25x applied to the combined total. Deposit $50, get $50, and PlayPennsylvania puts the obligation at $2,500 wagered on slots before anything comes out, deposit money included.
• Bally Pennsylvania: 0x, the lowest in that market, per PlayPennsylvania's bonus hub, which also gives a mid-range example: $100 at 15x is $1,500.
• New Jersey clusters lower. PlayNJ puts the norm at 10x to 15x, with BetMGM's deposit match at 15x, BetMGM's $25 no-deposit bonus at 1x, and DraftKings Flex Spins and BetRivers bonus money at 1x.

We have no operator-specific Michigan, West Virginia or Connecticut figures in this round of sources, so treat the NJ and PA numbers as the benchmark and check your own state's terms page. Two things we could not verify anywhere: the expected dollar loss at a stated slot RTP, and whether these matches are sticky or cashable. Both change the answer, and neither is in the published material we read.

The $3,000 is money staked, recycled through the same balance again and again, not money you need to lose and not money you need to win. Some write-ups blur this: PlayPennsylvania's bet365 review says you must "play and win" $2,500, which reads as a winnings target. It is not. It is turnover.

Clearing the playthrough is not the same as profit. next.io's line is blunt: "Even finishing the playthrough might break even or still be a net loss." The house edge applies to every one of those recycled dollars.

When the numbers are close, the deciding clause is usually the weighting table, not the multiplier. A 25x offer you can clear on the slots you already play beats a 15x offer that excludes live dealer, which is where you spend your evenings.
